The HIKI sauna is a new offer for sauna enthusiasts in Basel. "HIKI" means sweating in Finnish, and that's exactly what it's about:

This is HIKI
The pine trunks were felled last winter by our friend Norbert in his forest in the South Tyrolean Dolomites. His carpenter friend Philipp dried the logs and made them into paneling and slats for us.
In late autumn 2023 we brought the incredibly good pine wood to Basel and used it to build the interior of the sauna.
The Swiss pine - also called the Queen of the Alps - is said to have a positive effect on the mind and body. The smell also has a balancing effect and thus promotes health, well-being and sleep quality.

Our original Finnish Löyly IKI oven is fed with beech wood from the region until the thermometer shows plus/minus 80 degrees.
We'll do the lighting and greetings - we'll leave the sweating to you!

Everyone is welcome here – regardless of gender or pronouns. Sauna use is clothing-optional and usually mixed, except on Saturdays when sauna time is reserved exclusively for women from 2 pm to 6 pm.
When relaxing on and below deck or at the bar, you will feel comfortable in your own or a borrowed bathrobe.

Cooling down after perspiration is important and necessary. Some stand under the deluge shower or pour water over themselves, others dive into the Rhine for a few seconds or simply cool off on the upper deck in all kinds of weather.
You can relax on the upper deck with its panoramic views or on the comfortable loungers in the relaxation room – complimentary tea and water are included . The bistro offers a variety of drinks, snacks, and hot sandwiches .
Together with the crew of the MS Evolutie and friends, family and acquaintances, we worked almost around the clock from September until the opening on December 25, 2023 on our dream: the realization of a custom-built sauna on the deck of the most beautiful historic freighter from the 1940s that exists.
Outside of the sauna season, the MS Evolutie can be rented for private and business parties and celebrations!
You can also spend the night in the captain's cabin.

Thursday to Saturday: 1 x hourly infusion with ice and natural essences (always on the half hour)

Sundays: One sauna infusion per hour (always on the half hour), alternating between venik and ice.

Wearing a bathrobe or poncho is mandatory for hygienic reasons.

Because we are organized as an association, membership is mandatory . Membership costs CHF 10 per association year (from October 1st to September 30th) and is paid directly on site (online payment is not possible).

SO YOU COME TO US
The HIKI is located below the North Star, or rather on the footpath towards the tripoint.
You can park your bicycle directly in front of the ship.
Take tram (No. 8) or bus (No. 36 or 46) and get off at the "Kleinhüningen" stop.
from where you can reach the HIKI in 6 minutes on foot.
You can park your car in the parking lot in front of Swissterminal AG (Westquaistrasse 12).
Parking rates: Mon to Sat, 6:00 am - 12:00 am > CHF 1.10 / hour & Sun: free
